Permanent Residence to Foreign Students
Government has approved a special exemption allowing international students whom obtained their qualifications in South Africa within the current critical skills areas to qualify for permanent residence upon graduation.
This will definitely encourage foreign students to register to study with Universities in South Africa and upon graduation seeking employment in the SA job market.
Directive issued by Minister Gigaba in April 2016 provides for waiver from some of the requirements under critical skills such as a registration with a professional body, post qualification experience of 5 years and testimonials from previous employers.
We believe this to be a good incentive by Government to retain talent within the critical skills required in SA and making it more attractive to foreign students to take up studies without having to necessarily leave the country upon completion of their studies.
